Thank you for changing the way I thought about rhyming. Thank you for this. Thank you for confusing the stupid. Thank you for offending the uptight. Thank you for disregarding all form and fashion. Thank you for always being true to yourself. I know the government killed you, they are always scared of what they don't understand. Earthday Osiris.

He started this gangsta shit.
(remember when it was just ireverent fun?)
we dont 'just say no', we to busy saying YEAH!
to drinking straight out the eight bottle
do i look like a motherfucking role model?
to a kid looking up to me
life aint nothing but bitches and money.
He killed a verse on "Burn Hollywood Burn",
off of an undisputedly classic PE album.
(way before his contract with disney)
rolling through hollywood late at night
red and blue lights, what a common sight
pulled to the curb, getting played like a sucker
dont fight the power, shoot the motherfucker
He colaborated with Chuck D again,
this time on his classic solo debut.
you wanna free africa? i stare at ya
cause we aint got it too good in america
i can't fuck with 'em overseas
my home boy died over keys
of cocaine it was pain and simple
the 9mm went *bang* to the temple
He dropped "Death Certificate",
considered by many a classic.
... and he never stopped entertaining,
no matter how cliche or over the top.
(watch the 'go to church' video... on mute)

Return of the Mac

made me strong as an ox
made a nigga cold blooded
aint no friends on the block
just the comrades and co-d's
and crooked ass police
Bang On 'Em
Bang On 'Em
The knock on Mobb Deep has always been that they are actors, couple of kids from the New York High School of Art and Design who decided to act hard and make gangster music. In fact, just before Jay-Z got ethered, he showed his appreciation for the arts or rather tried to disgrace the Mobb at summer jam 2001 by unveiling pictures of fourteen year old Prodigy tap dancing. HNIC addresses this occurrence on this throw away joint (links jacked from nahright.com, go over and search Prodigy to see eskay's take on the Ballerina P thing). The fact that Prodigy has an artistic background does not seem like a conflict of interest to me. Prodigy is able to speak about violence and poverty without over simplifying or glorifying it, perhaps this is because the pursuit of art elevated his own life to the point where he can look more objectively at the world around him. Whatever the reason, the Alchemist produced "Return of the Mac" bangs... Check the vids

GOD pt III
The Mobb released Hell On Earth later in '95 riding the coattails of there own successful sophmore effort, The Infamous ...
This video is telling about the direction of the group. Visually the brighter colors, and glossier jewels, tip off their move away from the grit and grime of their classic second album. Sonically you can hear them gravitating toward the bigger beats, and ultimately club marketability... but lyrically Havoc & Prodigy are still on point here. "Pay attention to the crime rhyme Houdini P" and how Havoc flips that little Doughboy steez with the last line...

Its Valentines day... I've been snowed in all day. This song reflects my love life, or rather, lack there of. I've been pumping the mixed version from Z-Trip & DJ P. I posted below the entire mixtape below. Other highlights from the mix include track 18 but i cant tell you why, track 19 with a rendition of PE's "Bring the Noise", and "Phoney Phranchise" by Del (I think its the Domino remix) on track 9 ... and if any one knows why the bass line on track 11 sounds so damn familiar i will be indepted to them (my best guess is that i recognize it from another mix, maybe premo, count bass d or some stones throw cat). Any way please listen and tell me what you think. Happy Valentines.

Fuck You... that's the movie that we starred in
I've been feeling like an old man lamenting the better days of the past. Now, I could never be of the opinion that "Hip Hop is Dead" (though I understand what nas was trying to do/say with that album) but from time to time my interest fades from the constant flow of new releases. Instead, I try uncover the gems which i have slept on, and revisit old classics... and not get to caught up in negative things like Mobb Deep, being signed to g-unit (along with MOP, who are getting jerked around because cause of a lack of "marketability" aka sex appeal) and never again being able to make another song as smooth, edgy and deep as "Craddle to the Grave"... or that these days Doom seems more concerned with hooking up with an artist with cross over potential than one who spits the raw... like he and Kurious do, once again on this public service anouncement.

I guess this has very little to do with hiphop besides that conservitives gerneraly hate art. Fuck em, and Fuck The Mayor...
