On this great track these brothers (biologically speaking), Buddy Slim and Breezly Brewin, take the roles of father and son. The track uses this dynamic to discuss racism and interracial relationships. As dark and sad as the story this song tells, the song still remains beautiful.
The well crafted and poignant lyrics are complimented well by both beats.
The album mix is busier and more chaotic, perhaps intending to reflect the hard edge of the song.
While the original version is some what more simply produced, leaving the lyrics bare. The original is striking to me for the power of its melodic austerity.
